Intervention Specialist

I am the Intervention Specialist for Las Brisas Elementary School.

I assist parents,teachers and students navigate the special education maze. You can contact me via e mail mornelis@lb.dvusd.org or voice mail 623 445-5502.

All Individual Education Plans have been converted to an online computer service called IEP PRO.  The program has been updated so you may see sight changes in the format of the IEP paperwork.

Las Brisas has a General Education Intervention Team-GEIT, to help teachers determine interventions for students with academic and behavioral needs.  This team also conducts the pre-referral process to screen students for possible 504 or special education evaluation.

If you have a child not yet in school and have questions about his or her development you can call for information at the following sites:

                                        For children ages 0-2 1/2 call AzEIP at 602 532-9960

                                        For children ages 2 1/2 to 5 call HeadStart 602 467-6130

Stop by the school office for a booklet that has a checklist for your child's growth from birth to five. Every Step Counts !

 We have highly qualified teachers ready to service your child's needs. 

The Arizona Department of Education is asking for parental feedback in order to evaluate the success of education programs in our district. The survey was developed by the National Center for Special Education Accountability Monitoring (NCSEAM).  Your child's service coordinator has distributed a Arizona Parent Satisfaction Survey. If you did not receive a survey please contact my office and we will make sure you have the opportunity to take this confidential survey. 

The Parent Information Network (PIN) is pleased to announce the new

toll-free number dedicated to parents only, available 8 a.m.-5 p.m. at

1-877-230-PINS (7467). In an effort to support and empower parents to

fully participate in the special education process, the Parent

Information Network continues to develop innovative tools such as a

hotline for Special Education questions and concerns. For more
